PERSONAL FINANCIAL FREEDOM PART 1

Today I want to talk about living well within your means, or as the saying goes, cutting your coat according to your cloth. Over the years, I have come to understand that a great number of people on this earth lack the discipline to lead a lifestyle that they can not just afford, but afford with ease. During my secondary school days- at least 13 years ago- I had friends who regularly borrowed money from their friends just to buy the latest shoes, clothes or gadgets. They just did not understand the concept of buying only what they could afford and living within the financial provisions and capabilities of their parents/wards. They also did not seem to possess the save-to-purchase attitude of individuals who are good with money. Many of those friends of mine still possess this attribute of being unable to live within their means and are currently entangled in various financial troubles. They are proof that old habits really do die hard. These guys own some of the most expensive mobile phones currently on the market, buy only clothes that come with designer labels and splurge considerable amounts of cash when they go clubbing, yet they run to me almost every week for some kind of financial aid. I am sure we allm know these types. Probably, one or two of the readers of this piece belong to this category of people. We call them the Posers, fakers or Wash Wash people.
If you belong to this class of people, I have just one admonition for you: GET THE HELL OUT OF THIS CLASS! How do you go about extricating yourself from this class? Well the following steps should help a great deal.
1) Change your mindset (way of thinking). The most expensive and fashionable things are not always the best that money can buy. You do not have to wear the most expensive clothes or drive the most expensive car oruise the latest iPhone to be respected or more loved. You don't need to do these things to be a TRUE BIG BOY! Let your character and your abilities (the real you) earn you respect. That, in the final analysis, is the true kind of respect. True respect is earned an  This is not so easy and I agree it will take some time and doing. But it is worth the effort.
2) A change of friends may be needed. If most of your friends are wash wash people like you, then you need to trade them in for 'real people'. The people you associate with matters a lot in life. Associating with these 'real' people will go a long way in helping you change your way minset.
3) Budget a certain amount of money for shopping for your wants (those pretty shiny stuff that you don't really need)- an amount which you can easily afford to spend on shopping- and by all means stick to it.
4) If you are the shopaholic that is easily moved to buy whatever flashy thing is advertised by the shops, then reduce the frequency of your window-shopping. Try as much as possible to avoid your favourite shops.
5)When you go shopping for your wants (clothes you don't need, gadgets and the such), make a point of going for the most affordable that will still serve the purpose adequately.
6) If you live in the US, UK or other western countries, learn to take advantage of the regular Sales that the shops indulge in. During these periods you can get some high-end stuff dirt-cheap.
I could go on and on, but I will end here. I am not trying to write a textbook here. Catch you real soon.
